I think everyone had a great time at Field Day this year.
Pictures will be posted on the McMinn County Club WEB page soon
and I will let you know when and where.
I think that Ted, W4NZ is still wearing his jacket
(boy does that air conditioner work well in the
moble command post).
Worked many of the TCG gang under the various FD club calls.
We had a TCG meeting at the Field Day site
K4BP W4NZ and NA4K attended
discussed the erection of the big 20 mtr stack going up
in McMinn county... not here :(
We used one FT-1000mp and an IC-765 as the main
stations and had one 80 mtr loop and two center zepp's
at about 80 foot above the ground.
here are the numbers

Well this was indeed an interesting event for me. This was the first
attempt at operating FD from the NWS in Old Hickory by any group that
I'm aware of. The Davidson CO. ARES group operated 2F from the front
lawn. Operators were limited, but we had planned this as a very laid
back event. We were limited somewhat by our antennas, but managed to
keep both radios busy. I haven't totaled up the q's as of yet, but don't
think we broke 250 total. The main thing is that we all had fun and got
a good chance to test our mobile and portable antennas. I'm already
looking forward to next year.

A totally laid back affair. Chuck, KE4OAR and Ed, AF4IT joined me on my
back porch for a lot fun, a good meal, and a little bit of radioing. We
strung a 40m loop and 80m dipole in the back yard and took turns at the
radio. We broke for a family BBQ and then QRT'd for the evening about
2300. We started back up Sunday morning about 0600. The only Murphy
was trying to get the new 5 gal external gas tank to feed the generator
correctly. Once that was corrected, it was smooth sailing. Enjoyed
running across several of the TCG members. Not a huge score, but we
accomplished what we set out to do - have some fun!

Hello All,
We were fortunate to have some excellent TV publicity for FD 2003. I missed
+the coverage on WMCTV, Channel 5 in Memphis as was out at the FD site most
+of Friday afternoon and went to dinner with a friend visiting from Nashville
+that evening. Our main "HERO" here in Memphis is Austen Onek, KG4GKE, of
+WREG, NewsChannel 3 (CBS affiliate). Austen has plugged FD for the past few
+years and did an incredible job this year. Even had a flashing ARRL logo on
+his weathercast. He and the co-anchors talked about 2 minutes about FD and
+its implications for emergency preparedness.
A few years ago, I taught a class (4 consecutive Saturday mornings) for the
+weather crew at WHBQ - Fox13 here in Memphis, and 3 of their weather folks
+got their tickets. However, they are not terribly grateful - apparently -
+as they have given us rather minimal coverage. I have had the privilege of
+being Austen's "Elmer" and he is one of the best supporters of ham radio I
+have ever known.
How about a bunch of us email Austen at the station and let him know how
+much we appreciate his efforts!

This is the station URL and Austen's page is under the weather page.
Will try to get the Delta Club's results up sometime this afternoon or
evening.

Our OakRidge Club had a fair showing with our CW station, my Tentec Omni VI,
notebook computer and TR log with dipoles for 40 and 20 meters, operators
W4TYU, N8UM, W0BUH, N1CWR and K4LTA. We used Mel's call, K4PJ, but it is
not quite the same without the old slave driver being there in person.
722 QSOs on cw with one station that we kept on the air 24 hours minus time
to gas up the generator about ever 4 hours.
