W4FLO operated from Melton Hill dam recreation area as 1A.

We made slightly over 800 Q's this year, down a few from last year, but with
a 120 or so CW Q's (100% more than last year!).

TCG meeting included KE4OAR and AK4ST.

Easiest set up yet. Pretty steady rates most of the time but conditions not
as good as last year.

Lots of fun as always.

 N4IR Field Day

east tennessee contesters (etc.) was 2A Battery (5 watts) using call
N4IR.
Total of 1439 Qs, all on CW + bonus points of 800 = 15,190 points. After
doing 1A 100 watts and 1A 5 watts (battery) for several years we decided
to move up with the big dogs and try a 2A Battery 5 watt effort. Our
goal was 1600 Qs, so not bad. We sure learned a lot about a
multi-transmitter setup and about the "useful" shelf life of deep cycle
marine batteries. Our goal was to have another silent FD except when we
fired up the generator for microwaved egg and sausage biscuits for
breakfast. Unfortunately, we miscalculated the battery requirements for
two OMNI VIs, two laptops, an Icom for VHF, etc. Had to do some fast
charging early Sunday AM. Oh well, the generator served as a good alarm
clock!

The bands did not seem as good as last year. I feel like we will be
competitive in our class, but this was really a learning experience for
us. As they always say, "Wait 'til next year!"

TCGers in attendance were N4DD, N4DW, N4UW, N4IR, K4DR. Add N4DD, Jr.
and that was the sum total there. After a washout on Friday, we had an
absolutely beautiful Field Day, weatherwise. Now to redesign and rebuild
the N4IR shack. This always a good time to catch the dust bunnies that
have been there since last year's FD.
