TCG Meeting Minutes - @ Knoxville Hamfest 6/14/98
-------------------------------------------------

The 5th June Meeting of the Tennessee Contest group was held at the
Knoxville Hamfest, located at the National Guard Armory, on
Sutherland Ave. The following members were present:

K4RO Kirk Pickering Pegram, TN
W4PA Scott Robbins Gatlinburg, TN
W4KH Jack G.F. Hill Brentwood, TN
W4TYU Jean Giesler Knoxville, TN
W4HZD Willard Sitton Knoxville, TN
NA4K Steve Woods Athens, TN
K1KY Tom Delker Smyrna, TN

TCG set up a booth with videos and TR-Log demonstraion running
continuously. TCG information and membership forms were
distributed, netting 1 new member. We welcome Steve Woods,
NA4K to the fold!

Activities included the QLF contest, where K4RO, K1KY, W4PA and many
more hamfest attendees participated. The clear winner was W4PA,
who was able to send a CQ de W4PA perfectly while standing and
using his left foot tapping out the music. Congratulations to
Scott, and all the participants, who all received a nice certificate.

The other activity was the QRQ (High Speed Code) Copy contest, where
the competition was fierce. K1KY walked away with the honors, copying
both 45 and 55 wpm flawlessly. W4PA was a close 2nd with K4RO on his
heels. Stabs were made at 65 WPM, but our copy buffers overflowed and
forgot some of the text when it was time to recite it back...
(That is my story and I'm sticking to it!!) A nice plaque and padlette
keyer paddle were the first place prize, and will be proudly displayed
at the next TCG meeting!

Many thanks to Willard Sitton - W4HZD, Jean Giesler - W4TYU, and the
hamfest committee for their preparations and hospitality. This will
be an annual event for TCG, so put it on your calendars for next year!

The 6th June meeting will be held at Field Day locations thoroughout the
State of Tennessee and in our membership area (175mi Radius centered on
Murfreesboro, TN). Local chapter moderators are to place TCG sign-in
sheets on the information tables, take careful notes, and submit your
write-ups through the reflector.

The July meeting will be held at N5HV, in Jackson, TN on July 18.

Until we meet again, 73 es Go TCG!

Thomas M. Delker, K1KY - TCG Facilitator 1998
