--------------------------------------------------
The first function of the "TCG Gatlinburg/Knoxville Gala" was held
at the Ten-Tec factory, in Sevierville, TN. The following were present:
W4PA Scott Robbins Gatlinburg, TN
W4KH Jack G.F. Hill Brentwood, TN
N4AFG Sandy Hill Brentwood, TN
K1KY Tom Delker Smyrna, TN
AC4LS Eric Guinn Johnson City, TN
Scott Robbins, W4PA hosted the tour of the fabulous Ten-Tec
All-American Radio Factory -- birthplace of some of the best
contest radios you will ever sink your teeth in. Beginning with the
metal shop, Scott explained that almost everything that goes into
Ten-Tec equipment is manufactured at their factory. K1KY asked if
they made the screws.. answer.. no. The tour continues through the
metal finishing shop, where various pieces are formed to become
a kit, radio, or other job for a contract customer. Scott points out
that they not only manufacture radio equipment for ham radio
and commercial radio markets, rather a whole host of cabinets,
assemblies, electronics, you name it... for a wide variety of well
known customers in the audio, electronics, and computer industries.
Wrapping up the tour with the paint shop, wave solderer, harness
assembly, P.C. board assembly, transformer assembly and the
world-famous service department, Scott clearly showed his knowledge
of Ten-Tec top to bottom. Although the turn-out was small, the
event was a hugh success, with even Sandy, N4AFG following along
attentively every step of the way. Many thanks to Scott and the
whole Ten-Tec crew for extending their hospitality to us during
the tour.
We adjourned to the current residence of W4PA for a station tour and
fine dinner on the town.
Next meeting: 11:00 a.m., June 13 @ W4PA.
