  • Welcome to the Tennessee Contest Group

The Tennessee Contest Group (a.k.a. TCG) is a group of amateur radio operators (hams) who enjoy operating in competitive radio sporting events or "contests." The contests range from world-wide 48-hour events with tens of thousands of participants to smaller regional events which may be as short as one hour in duration. The goal of most contests is to contact as many other participants on as many amateur radio bands as possible. The "prize" for doing well in contesting is usually nothing more than a wooden plaque, a paper certificate, and of course the recognition of one's peers. The real prizes are found in the joy of competing, improving over past efforts, and learning from each other along the way. We invite you to consider joining the TCG in the fun and excitement of amateur radio contesting.

Subject: [TCG] TN QSO Party web site

    Hi all,

It's a little early to be talking about the 2007 Tennessee QSO Party,
but I felt the same way last year, then I let the thing slip up on me
this year. I'm not going to do that again. So, next time you have a
few minutes to kill, point your browser to www.tnqp.com and look around.

There's not a lot there, but it's a start. Feel free to test the "Sign
Up" form for registering your county for TNQP 2007. At some point I'll
start gathering the submitted info and put it on the site, but until
then, click away. I have broken the Sign Up form several times trying
to get it like I want it, but I think I have finally stomped all the
bugs out of it. If you encounter an error, please drop me an email with
a brief description of the problem.

Eventually, probably next year but maybe sooner, I plan to add a map
highlighting the counties and stations as they register. I might also
add a map showing counties activated this year (maybe past years too) so
at a glance we'll have an idea of where the big holes are. Maybe these
things will help us recruit some operators in the rare counties or
encourage portable ops to go to those rare spots. The rovers might find
some of the information useful when planning their routes too.

Among other things, there will be a list of relevant links (N1MM,
Writelog, TR-Log, etc.), files for download and use in TNQP, maybe a map
for folks to color in who hope to Work All Tennessee (if that project
ever gets off the ground). A few other suggestions have been made too
and will probably appear on the site in the coming months.

Hopefully this site will prove useful in planning for and operating in
TNQP 2007. In the meantime, send me your suggestions for the site. And
if you run across a mistake or a broken link, I would appreciate a note.
    Thanks.

    SEDCO 2007

The SouthEastern DX and Contesting Organization has called the third annual convention on DX and Contesting at the MainStay Suites and Convention Center in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. This is near the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains, just east of Knoxville and only minutes from Ten-Tec, which is located in Sevierville.

SEDCO follows Ten-Tec.s very popular hamfest to round out a ham's dream weekend and provides the XYL/YLs a shopping fantasy! This time of year the fall foliage should be at its peak also.

For more informatoin on SEDCO 2007, please view the following document: SEDCO 2007

    Please submit your Contest Logs

If you operate radio contests and would like to contribute to a club effort, the TCG would appreciate your points. No log is too small. Simply add the following line to your Cabrillo Log file:

    CLUB: Tennessee Contest Group

Most logging programs will prompt you for the name of your club and create the appropriate line in your Cabrillo file. Simply type "Tennessee Contest Group" when prompted for the club name.
